Crete: Fortezza & Venetian Harbour, Rethymno

At the end of Perivolia Beach, which I blogged about here last week, you'll find the Fortezza and Venetian Harbour of Rethymno. The Venetians attempted to build a fortress around Crete to prevent it being taken by the Ottoman Empire, although it was conquered in 1646.

As you'll be able to tell from all of my Crete posts, we got amazing weather all week - long, hot days of sunshine and blue skies which made for incredible views.

It was so hot that day, that even the local poultry tried to keep cool...

Yes, that is a hen trying to wet itself under a tap!

We thought we had seen all there was to see around the harbour until we took a little detour and ended up finding this rocky area with crystal clear water:

There's not really much more I can say about these photos other then we really enjoyed walking around and appreciating how beautiful it all looked! It makes my heart hurt to look back on these photos, I feel like it's been so long since we were here already, although it's only been 2 weeks.

Looking forward to showing you the White Mountains and the Old Town, make sure you check back in soon!
