The Bali Blogs: Harta Lembongan Villas & Mushroom Bay

After a full day and night spent in Sanur, we took an afternoon boat thirty minutes across to Nusa Lembongan, one of three small islands off the South-East coast of Bali that make up the Nusa Penida district. As it's so close to Bali mainland, lots of people visit the island for the day but after Dan found the picturesque Harta Lembongan villas through Booking.com, we chose to stay for three nights.

The villas are located at a quiet end of the island right next to Mushroom Bay. We got picked up from the beach by an open back truck and had to cling on for dear life as it wove through the narrow bumpy roads (if you can call them that!) across the island. As we got further out to the end of the island, it started looking increasingly desolate and we wondered what we had let ourselves in for.

Thankfully as we walked into the garden, we were blown away by the mini paradise we were greeted with. There are six villas that outline the garden, with a small private pool complete with sun loungers in the centre. There's also two huts at the end of the garden, for the reception area and small restaurant.

Inside the villa, the furnishings were modest (no fridge or TV) yet beautifully designed. Each villa had it's own covered porch at the front with outdoor seating. The doors opened into the bedroom with a big double bed. The door next to the bed slides open to lead you to the outdoor bathroom, although there is cover on one side above the toilet and sink area.

Once we'd finished drooling over the villas, we raced to get ready to try and watch the sunset from the aptly named Sunset Point, a short walk away at the end of the island. For the second night in a row, we missed it! We kept misjudging the timing but I managed to capture a few nice snaps:

That night we came back to the villas and enjoyed a delicious and extremely cheap Indonesian meal at the restaurant before spending the evening chilling in the garden and then on our porch. The next morning after breakfast we got straight into our swimwear and spent the day sunbathing by the pool, jumping in when we were on the brink of sunburn. This was probably our most relaxed day the whole holiday and it was much needed.

When we'd finally had enough of all the Bintang and sunbathing by the pool, we showered and got ready to get some dinner and cocktails at Hai Bar & Grill on Mushroom Bay.

We managed to make it in time for sunset and although the surroundings were beautiful, it wasn't the best part of the island to watch it. I'm not complaining though, as you can see from the photos the bay was still a sight to behold!

After drinking a few too many cocktails and tucking into some massive pizzas, we made our way back to the villas to chill for the rest of the night. The one negative of the location of where we were staying, was that it's on the opposite side of the island to the main bars, but for a few nights it suited us perfectly. We honestly felt like we were at a honeymoon destination and it truly felt so special there. Super cheesy I know!

Don't worry, in the next post things liven up as we took a scooter around the island...
