Patty & Bun

Following our 3 hour tour around the British Museum, we'd worked up a serious appetite. This was a semi-deliberate attempt to balance out the gluttony that we planned to embark on at Patty & Bun. I'd been desperate to try Patty & Bun for a while but we don't spend much time around Central London. Plus I'm not really about that queuing life (Dan's colleague once queued for an hour to eat there!). Cleverly, we scheduled our trip just before dinnertime rush hour and arrived at 4.30.

Patty & Bun is a lot smaller than I thought it would be. In fact, it's sort of tucked away between shops so if you weren't purposefully seeking it out, you would probably blink and miss it. It's on James Street, a short walk from Bond Street. We were greeted by a friendly waitress who told us we could sit anywhere as it was pretty empty which pleased my inner control freak greatly (is it just me or do they usually try and make couples sit in the worst seats?!). Similar to Breakfast Club, there was an awesome selection of tunes blaring from the speakers including a Lionel Richie remix and Bey's Drunk in Love.

The ethos of Patty & Bun seem to be less is more - evident from their decor, menu options and condiments. Not that I'm complaining, sometimes it can be overwhelming when there are so many things to choose from.

We both opted for the 'Ari Gold' cheeseburger with bacon and rosemary salt chips which arrived like this (bonus points to P&B for stocking San Pellegrino Limonata!)...

Of course, I loved the cute Patty & Bun branded takeaway packaging for the burger but sadly it wasn't very practical. As I opened the paper wrapping, some of the meat juice dripped onto my t-shirt and continued to be a messy affair throughout, so a plate would have been handy. But I'm not too much of a princess or spoilsport to say that it ruined my meal - far from it! Just take a look at this burger porn...

A medium cooked beef patty with tomato, lettuce, shredded red pickles, bacon and their special P&B smokey mayo, sandwiched between a brioche bun oozing with melted cheese. Pure and utter filth. I tried my hardest to take my time and savour it but it wasn't long before I'd devoured the entire thing. Definitely up there as one of the best burgers I've ever had. Everything was cooked perfectly and all the different elements worked so well together. Sadly the same can't be said for the rosemary salt chips - they were a little too salty and I didn't like the texture of them either. I think next time I would skip the fries and share their chicken wings. Meat on meat? When indulging, why not? ;-)

We're not usually big on dessert but the waitress tempted us into their one and only dessert option - biscotti icecream. Unfortunately we tucked into it before I could get photographic evidence but rest assured that it was tasty. As the waitress described, it was P&B's own blend of a Mr Whippy that tasted like Ferroro Rocher and hazelnuts. The biscottis tasted like marzipan (my favourite!) so it really was the perfect sweet treat to balance out all the meaty savoury-ness.

All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Patty & Bun - amazing burgers, friendly staff and an awesome atmosphere. I definitely say it's worth trying to go there at off-peak times if possible so you're not queueing round the block.

Have you been to Patty & Bun before? Has my review persuaded you? ;-)
