A couple of weeks ago, we decided to take an impromptu trip to visit Dan's brother and his family in Mullagh, Ireland. I'd only been once before back in 2010 so was long overdue a return trip. We arrived on Saturday evening and spent the night catching up with some drinks by the fire. That's what I love most about going to visit, they live in a gorgeous house tucked away in a little village right in the middle of the Irish countryside.
The next day we were pleasantly surprised to wake up to the sun shining despite Ireland's rainy rep. Determined to make the most of it, Dan's nephew and niece took us exploring around Dun na Ri Forest.
Cassie insisted on walking around with her hands firmly in her pockets!
After wandering around on the trail along the river, Finn decided it was time to find less treacherous ground so we could get a game of football going. Boys vs girls, of course.
By the time we'd finished running around, the kids devised a cunning plan to avoid tiring their little legs out further...
Tummies grumbling, we were all feeling a little peckish - luckily Cabra Castle was just around the corner.
Inside, we were greeted by this big brute, Oscar the Irish wolfhound. He reminded me a little of Hagrid's dog Fang in Harry Potter.
As the weather was nice, we sat outdoors in the beautiful garden area.
After surviving a raid by Oscar on our plates of food and finishing off ridiculous sized icecream sundaes, it was time to wave goodbye and head home.
As you can see from the photos, the green landscape was idyllic - sometime's there's nothing better than escaping the city and getting back to nature to soothe your soul.
In my next post I'll show you around Trim Castle where Braveheart was filmed (& some grim weather), so be sure to pop back!
